Rethink the past, prioritize the present, fortify the future

How It All Began

My career in the helping professions began as a street performer in my hometown of Norwalk, CT. I rented my first saxophone at the age of sixteen and poured my heart out into city streets, just imagining where life might take me. I had a dream to Change the World with Music, and as I played, people from different walks of life would stop to share stories about where they had been and where they were going. I found myself longing to make a difference in their lives. Looking back, this was my first step toward becoming a therapist.

My Journey

In the summer of 2011, I began my clinical journey as a music therapy intern on an inpatient psych unit in Brooklyn, NY. There I was introduced to facilitating groups for depression, psychosis, addiction, and suicidality. With a newfound passion for mental health, I pursued my master’s specializing in humanistic psychotherapy and completed ten years of clinical experience at NYU Langone Health. As I continue my journey in private practice, I look back on thousands of cases that guide me in helping my clients lead a more constructive and efficient lifestyle. Inpatient psychiatry has served as a foundation for my clinical identity. It has familiarized me with a broad range of conditions and has allowed me to practice treatment from so many different angles.

Over the years I’ve learned how to tune into the energy of a room, and introduce elements that support necessary change. It’s been scary at times, tragic in others, but all-in-all the integrity of this space has shown me some beautiful things about humanity. I call it “The World In A Box,” a place where people can speak out loud, be listened to ever more clearly, and walk away with a new sense of who they are. Time again, I’ve noticed that behind every symptom is a person who’s only trying to get by. I carry this viewpoint into my private practice in an effort to support my clients' progress.

Who I Became

So what kind of therapist am I? What kinds of people do I help? With each client, I observe closely the way they process thoughts and feelings and formulate an approach that aligns with their personal goals, as long as there is no harm involved. Sometimes the approach is skills-based, while in others it’s more creative or self-reflective. I know deep down how no one approach will meet the needs of every client, so I keep an open mind to provide the best service possible. When my knowledge or experience gets the best of me, I encourage my clients to advocate for themselves and speak their own truth. In this world, being ourselves is the hardest thing to do, but I see it as the number one thing that I can support and validate as a therapist.
